U.S.S. Wisconsin heads into Gravesend Bay August 22, 1951, leaving the lower Manhatten skyline astgern after being freed by a fleet of tugs from the mud bottom of the Hudson River where she struck after breaking her mooring lines. Note the huge stargboard anchor in position for being dropped to the bottom, Acrew of divers will imspect her huss to determine the extent, if any, of the damage caused by the incident.
