Battle Fleet arrives 6 May 1908
May 8, the fleet of 42 warships anchored in San Francisco Bay is reviewed by Secretary Metcalf.
May 9, Admiral Evans formaly turns the Fleet over to Rear Admiral Thomas who on May 15 is relieved as Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Sperry taking command.
May 15, Rear-Admiral Thomas is relieved as commander-in-chief, Rear-Admiral Sperry taking command, and Captains Schroeder and Wainwrigth are appointed acting Rear-Admirals.
The Atlantic fleet leaves San Francisco for Bellingham Bay, Washington, on May 18 with ships Nebraska and Wisconsin in line replacing Maine and Alabama.
